Lewis McCourt Family Law | Brenda McCourtBrenda McCourt, now retired, started practicing law in 1976. She began her legal career in Toronto, and relocated to Vancouver after being called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1987.

Brenda was known for her empathy with clients and for her common sense and creative approach to problem solving.

Her practice included:

Family Law Mediation: Brenda worked with clients to negotiate and complete separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and variations of previous agreements and court orders.

Collaboration: Brenda worked as a collaborative lawyer in formal collaborative law processes, as well as in informal collaboration, where four-way meetings of lawyers and clients are held to achieve settlement.

Negotiation: Where a client has issues to resolve, but doesn’t want to go to court, Brenda worked to help the client negotiate a fair settlement out of court.

Arbitration: Brenda was certified as a Family Law Arbitrator in 2014.

Writing: Brenda has written and published numerous articles, most recently Negotiation Toolbox for Mediation and Elsewhere in The Verdict magazine.

A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, Brenda received her law degree from the University of Ottawa Law School in 1974.

Carla Lewis and Brenda McCourt began working in association in 1992.
